This no-frills electric soprano is inspired by my favourite electric guitar. It’s designed primarily for live performing (remember that?!) and recording, though you could plug it into a headphone amplifier for quiet practice.
The body is made from reclaimed utile wood. It is hollowed-out internally, but you can’t tell from the outside. The neck is also utile with a pao ferro fretboard. Grover geared tuners give accurate tuning – important when you’re playing plugged in!
There’s a passive pickup under the saddle, hard-wired to the output jack. Like a Zippo lighter, it’s a simple design with very little to go wrong. The neck joint is a glued mortise and tenon and the finish is Crystalac water based lacquer. As this is a workhorse instrument, the finish is straight from the spraygun with no buffing.
